Katsina State Deputy Governor, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, has represented Governor Dikko Umaru Radda at the Nigeria Energy Leadership Summit, where he unveiled a series of groundbreaking clean energy initiatives positioning Katsina as a leader in renewable energy development.
Speaking at the event held at the Landmark Convention Centre in Lagos, Jobe announced the state government’s plan to establish Nigeria’s first Ministry of Power, Renewable Energy, and Energy Security, aimed at coordinating and regulating Katsina’s fast-growing energy projects.
Delivering the Governor’s special address titled “Building a Clean-Energy Future: Lessons from Katsina’s Solar, Wind, Hydro and CNG Projects,” the Deputy Governor highlighted the state’s major strides in renewable power generation.
He disclosed that the state had approved the deployment of more than 10 megawatts of solar photovoltaic systems with 10 megawatt-hours of battery storage across 11 key facilities, including universities, hospitals, waterworks, and the State House of Assembly.
“These projects are reducing costs, cutting emissions, and ensuring steady power supply to essential sectors like healthcare, education, and water services,” Jobe said.
He also announced that Katsina will soon commission its first Liquefied and Compressed Natural Gas (LNG/CNG) facility, developed in partnership with Greenville LNG Limited, which is now 90 percent complete.
Jobe highlighted ongoing discussions for the formal handover of Nigeria’s only wind power project the 10MW Lambar Rimi Wind Farm — to Katsina State, along with plans to hybridize it with an additional 10MW of solar energy.
He added that the government is implementing a 1MW mini-hydro project at Danja Dam in collaboration with the French Treasury and Oceans Énergie to power rural communities and boost agricultural productivity.
The Deputy Governor further revealed that 1.3MW of solar capacity with battery storage had already been installed at the Government House and General Hospital Katsina through a partnership with Genesis Energy.
He also announced plans for a Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission with neighbouring states to promote regional grid stability, attract investors, and accelerate energy reforms.
Jobe said the Radda administration is deploying stand-alone solar systems to power small and medium enterprises including welding workshops, cold rooms, and ICT hubs to empower local entrepreneurs and expand rural electrification.
The Deputy Governor reiterated that Katsina’s clean energy transition reflects visionary leadership and strategic partnership, serving as a model for other states.
The Nigeria Energy Summit drew high-profile participants including the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; members of the diplomatic corps; and industry leaders.
Jobe’s representation at the summit underscored Katsina’s growing influence as a subnational leader in Nigeria’s clean energy revolution and its alignment with the nation’s Net Zero target by 2060.
